Donizetti: La Fille du Régiment (2019)
It is full of vocal fireworks with some of the most harrowing high notes in opera. In this story we meet a young lady, Marie, thought to be orphaned and her merry band of soldiers engaged in the Napoleonic Wars in the Swiss Tyrol. The plot follows Marie and the soldiers through her trials in love and life. Hilarity ensues as the path of an aristocrat with a past meets the advancing line of soldiers and as the story and melodies weave together laugher and love lead to a fairytale ending for Marie and those around her.
