Friday Report: 'Neighbors' Cranks Up the Volume on Friday
Neighbors got off to a raucous start at the box office on Friday. Meanwhile, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 kicked off its second weekend with a steep drop.

Playing at nearly 3,279 theaters, Neighbors opened to a fantastic $19.6 million on Friday. That's bigger than The Hangover ($16.7 million), and barely below Ted ($20.6 million). It's also the best start ever for a live-action Seth Rogen movie ahead of Superbad ($12.3 million). For the weekend, it should earn at least $50 million.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 dropped to second place with an estimated $10.1 million. That's off 71 percent from last Friday, which is identical to Spider-Man 3's drop at the same point. The superhero sequel could wind up as low as $34 million this weekend.

Despite facing tough competition from Neighbors, Cameron Diaz comedy The Other Woman only dropped 41 percent on Friday. The movie added $2.82 million for a new total of $55.3 million.

Heaven is for Real took fourth place with $1.65 million, while Captain America: The Winter Soldier rounded out the Top Five with $1.49 million.

Playing at 1,044 locations, Moms' Night Out opened in sixth place with an estimated $1.25 million. For the weekend, it should earn between $4 and $5 million.

Despite opening in over 2,500 theaters, Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return earned just $981,000 in its first day. That's on par with notorious kid-friendly bombs Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil ($1.09 million), Hoot ($983,000) and Doogal ($873,608). For the weekend, it will likely earn less than $4 million.

In its 64th day in theaters, The Grand Budapest Hotel passed The Royal Tenenbaums to become director Wes Anderson's highest-grossing movie ever with $52.7 million.
