'Breaking Dawn' Officially Split in Two, 'Part Two' Nabs Date
After months of public speculation that the fourth and final book in the Twilight series would be split in to two movies, distributor Summit Entertainment made it official today. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (Part Two) is now scheduled to open Nov. 16, 2012, just under a year after Part One debuts.
The decision to split Breaking Dawn in to two movies echoes a similar decision made regarding the final Harry Potter book: Deathly Hallows (Part One) opens in November with Deathly Hallows (Part Two) following in July 2011. Unlike Deathly Hallows, though, Breaking Dawn is the actually the longest book in the Twilight series by over 100 pages.
Like Breaking Dawn (Part One), Part Two will be directed by Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, Kinsey, Gods and Monsters), while series stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner will again reprise their roles. Since opening on June 30, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has earned $288.8 million and is poised to pass The Twilight Saga: New Moon's $296.6 million total in the next few weeks. Overall, The Twilight Saga has earned over $814 million domestically and more than $1.7 billion worldwide (domestic plus foreign).
Breaking Dawn (Part Two) is set to open opposite Monsters Inc. 2.
