Analysis: Featuring a litany of box office stars and familiar faces with the general theme of "love," Valentine's Day comes off as the deluxe version of Love Actually or He's Just Not That Into You. The ensemble romantic comedy was announced shortly after He's Just Not That Into You debuted to $27.8 million (winding up with $94 million) last February, and, apropos, it's scheduled to open on the weekend of Valentine's Day (which is also President's Day weekend), opposite The Wolfman, I Love You, Phillip Morris and Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief.

Valentine's Day's cast includes Bradley Cooper (a He's Just Not That Into You alum), Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway, Ashton Kutcher and Julia Roberts (re-teaming with her Pretty Woman and Runaway Bride director, Garry Marshall, in her defining genre) among many others. However, a marquee busting out at the seams doesn't always equal the sum of its parts at the box office. He's Just Not That Into You and Love Actually were popular, but didn't achieve the heights of the solo work of their biggest stars, while Playing by Heart was little seen. It can be tricky to get audiences vested in thematically-linked vignettes as opposed to a single, focused story, and Valentine's Day could come off as too much of a contrived celebrity gathering to be relatable. Nonetheless, the movie is likely to take advantage of the holiday and score a sizable sampling out of the gate.
