Around-the-World Roundup: 'Inception' Still Wide Awake
In a somewhat slow weekend at the foreign box office, Inception had no problem maintaining its grip on first place. Toy Story 3 also continued its remarkable run, passing a number of milestones in the process. The Expendables opened decently in 20 territories, while The Sorcerer's Apprentice had its best overseas weekend thus far.
Inception dipped 25 percent to $35.9 million in 62 markets. The Christopher Nolan mindbender remained in first place in Germany and Australia, where it earned $3 million and $2.8 million, respectively. Through its fifth weekend, Inception has tallied an impressive $315.4 million overseas, bringing its worldwide total (domestic plus foreign) to $564 million.

It spent its sixth straight weekend on top in Japan, where it earned another $6.1 million for a $95.8 million total. Also of note was a $5.1 million haul in the United Kingdom, where it is the top-grossing animated movie of all-time with $91.5 million. With a $539.3 million overseas haul, Toy Story 3 has officially knocked off Finding Nemo to become Disney's biggest-grossing animated feature ever overseas. It also became the top-grossing animated movie ever worldwide on Friday, passing Shrek 2's $919.8 million, and has moved in to ninth place on the all-time worldwide chart with $940.1 million.

With the information that has been gathered, though, it appears the ensemble action movie earned at least $15 million in around 20 territories. This includes a solid first place debut in Russia ($6.4 million), along with decent second place showings in Australia ($3.1 million) and Spain ($1.8 million).
