The 2010 box office is off to a blistering start, thanks mostly to 2009 holdover Avatar. Whether it will ultimately top 2009's record-breaking $10.6 billion gross remains to be seen, but Hollywood has some highly-anticipated releases lined up for the new year.

From the outset, 2010 looks like business as usual. There are sequels to 2009 releases (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part One), The Twilight Saga: Eclipse), long-awaited sequels (Toy Story 3, Wall Street 2, Tron: Legacy) and many more in between (Iron Man 2, Shrek Forever After). Remakes and adaptations abound, particularly those based on 1980s fare (Clash of the Titans, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The A-Team, The Karate Kid, Red Dawn), not to mention movies with tried-and-true formulas (Salt, Grown Ups, Knight & Day). What's not known, as always, are the sleepers—pictures like The Blind Side, The Hangover and Paul Blart: Mall Cop that can take the yearly box office to the next level.
