Scorsese's 'Hugo Cabret' Finds Dec. 2011 Home
Sony Pictures announced this morning that children's book adaptation Hugo Cabret, directed by Martin Scorsese, is now scheduled to hit theaters in 3D on Dec. 9, 2011.
Hugo Cabret is based off of Brian Selznick's The Invention of Hugo Cabret, a 526-page book that uses both words and pictures to tell its story. The novel is about a 12-year-old orphan Hugo Cabret who lives in the walls of a Paris train station, and it won the 2008 Caldecott Medal, designating it the best American picture book for children from that year.
Martin Scorsese, of course, is best known for ultra-violent work like Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas and The Departed, and he's coming off of another R-rated hit, Shutter Island, which has racked up $125.1 million since its Feb. 19 release. Hugo Cabret would be his first movie geared towards children.
Hugo Cabret marks the third 3D children's movie to lay claim to a date in December 2011: Alvin and the Chipmunks 3D is scheduled for Dec. 16, while The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn (in 3D) opens Dec. 23.
