Captain America: The First Avenger led the box office on Monday, earning $7.75 million for a four-day total of $72.8 million. The Monday figure led all of Summer 2011's comic book adaptations including Thor ($5.4 million), which was to be expected considering the difference between May and July weekdays. Also, after opening slightly behind Thor, Captain America moved ahead on Monday and should finish the week with a significant lead over its Avengers predecessor.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 added $6.5 million on Monday, which represented a 64 percent week-over-week decline. That percentage decline was up from Deathly Hallows Part 1 at the same point but a notch down from the last two Summer Potter movies. However, its gross was by-far the best in the Potter series at day eight, even when adjusted for ticket price inflation.

Potter's 11-day total of $280 million ranked second all-time behind The Dark Knight ($324.3 million) but just a bit ahead of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen ($279.7 million). International results are not currently available, but it's fair to assume it moved past $850 million worldwide.
