'Big Momma' Suits Up Again in 2011...
20th Century Fox announced today that Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son, the third movie in the Big Momma's House franchise, will hit theaters Feb. 18, 2011 (Presidents' Day weekend). Martin Lawrence will reprise his role as an FBI agent whose investigations lead him to go undercover, cross-dressing in a fat suit as the titular character. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the third movie finds Big Momma going undercover at an all-girls performing-arts school.
The original Big Momma's House opened to $25.7 million in 2000 and ultimately grossed an impressive $117.6 million (or nearly $170 million adjusted for ticket price inflation). Despite this success, it was over five years before the sequel, Big Momma's House 2, was released. While it opened to $27.7 million, it came up short of the original's final tally, closing with a still solid $70.2 million. All told, the series has grossed over $310 million worldwide.
Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son is currently set to debut opposite Battle: Los Angeles and I Am Number Four.
