Ryan Reynolds/Jason Bateman & Kristen Wiig Comedies Stake Out Summer 2011…
Universal Pictures has lined up Summer 2011 release dates for two of its comedies. The {lnk46418}Untitled Kristen Wiig/Judd Apatow Comedy{/lnk} is set for May 13, 2011, while The Change-Up lands on Aug. 5, 2011.
The Untitled Kristen Wiig/Judd Apatow Comedy will be the first vehicle for Kristen Wiig (also a co-writer of the screenplay), best known for television's Saturday Night Live and supporting work in a number of recent comedies, including the upcoming Date Night and MacGruber as well as Judd Apatow productions like Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story and Knocked Up.
The movie will reportedly be about two women competing to plan their friend's wedding and will be produced by Apatow and directed by Apatow cohort Paul Feig (Unaccompanied Minors, which Wiig appeared in). It's currently the only nationwide release scheduled for May 13, 2011, sandwiched between Thor on May 6 and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides on May 20.
The Change-Up is a body-switch comedy featuring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman, directed by David Dobkin (Fred Claus, Wedding Crashers) and written by the team behind The Hangover and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Jon Lucas and Scott Moore.
Presumably a raunchier take on the sub-genre than recent entries Freaky Friday, 13 Going on 30 and 17 Again, The Change-Up is about a dependable family man (Bateman) who magically swaps bodies with his arrested-development best friend (Reynolds). By opening on Aug. 5, 2011, the movie will counter-program Smurfs (in 3D) and will arrive just a month and a half after Reynolds' debut as the Green Lantern (in 3D).
