'Potter' Sets Four-Day Record
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 added $18.04 million yesterday to bring its four-day total to $187.2 million. That tops The Dark Knight's $182.9 million four-day tally to set a new record, though the Batman is closing in quickly.
Potter's $18.04 million ranks as the fourth highest-grossing non-Holiday Monday on record behind The Dark Knight, Avatar, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. When including holiday Mondays it drops down to 10th, and may even fall to 12th when actuals report later today.
The movie dipped 49.5 percent from Sunday to Monday, which is worse than The Dark Knight's 43.8 percent decline. When grosses report tomorrow, it's likely that the $4.3 million gap currently separating the two movies has closed, and there's a very good chance Potter will actually be slightly trailing the Caped Crusader.
Potter had another outstanding day overseas, earning $41 million for a total of $355 million. That pushes Potter's worldwide total to an incredible $542.2 million. By crossing the half-billion dollar point in just six days, Potter demolished the nine-day record set two weeks ago by Transformers: Dark of the Moon.
