'Magic Mike' and 'Genisys' Neck and Neck...for Now.
The numbers are in for Tuesday and Magic Mike XXL leads Terminator Genisys, with the Channing Tatum film taking in $2.4M versus $2.3M for the Schwarzenegger reboot. Mike, with mildly positive reviews, would seem poised to take the weekend versus the poorly received latest Terminator. Paramount, however, is reporting that Genisys is actually on 3,758 screens, a much wider count than the 3,600 earlier reported, which upends the conventional thinking.

Neither film is being embraced by early reviewers and audiences. Mike has a 6.2/10 from 585 users on IMDb and a 59% "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Genisys has a 7.2/10 from 9,116 users on IMDb but a dismal 26% on RT.

And both debuts are going up against the successful runs of very popular films. So, with the Fourth of July multiplexes looking as crowded as the roads out of town, it might help to look at the reported screen counts to make your estimates.
