MPAA Ratings: 'Inception,' 'Killers,' 'Cabin in the Woods'
The Motion Picture Association of America's Classification and Ratings Administration released their weekly ratings bulletin this morning, which included new ratings for Inception, Killers, The Cabin in the Woods and Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2.
Inception, director Christopher Nolan's follow-up to The Dark Knight, received a PG-13 rating for "sequences of violence and action throughout." Written by Nolan based off his own original idea, military-like secrecy has thus far surrounded the project. Based on information available, the plot follows a team led by Leonardo DiCaprio that specializes in infiltrating people's dreams to steal their ideas. Also featuring Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Cillian Murphy, Tom Berenger and Michael Caine, Inception opens in regular theaters and IMAX on July 16.
Action comedy Killers has been rated PG-13 for "violent action, sexual material and language." Directed by Robert Luketic and starring Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl as a recently-married couple who battle neighborhood assassins, Killers is scheduled for June 4, where it will face off against Get Him to the Greek, Marmaduke and Splice.
Horror comedy The Cabin in the Woods, written by Joss Whedon, received an R rating for "strong bloody horror violence and gore, language, drug use and some sexuality/nudity." The 3D release is scheduled for Jan. 14, 2011 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend), where it challenges Tyler Perry's For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf, The Green Hornet (also in 3-D) and the just-announced Untitled Ron Howard/Vince Vaughn/Kevin James Comedy.
Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2 was rated G, a rating deemed so innocuous that it never receives an explanation from the MPAA. The movie is not officially on Walt Disney Pictures' 2010 release schedule, indicating that it may be following the straight-to-video path despite the success of the first Beverly Hills Chihuahua.
